Business Operations Manager
We are looking for a sharp, organized business operations professional to bring structure and financial clarity to a brand that is scaling quickly. The founders are focused on design and client experience — this person owns everything else: the numbers, the systems, the administrative infrastructure, and the operational decisions that keep the business healthy.
We are open to this being a part-time in-house role or a fractional engagement, depending on the candidate. What matters most is finding someone who understands the particular rhythms of a fashion brand and can hit the ground running.
This is an early-stage opportunity with significant room to grow. The right person will have the chance to shape how the business operates from the ground up and grow with the brand as it scales.
Responsibilities
- Own day-to-day financial operations: bookkeeping, expense tracking, cash flow monitoring, and reconciliation.
- Liaise with the brand's external accountant on tax preparation, reporting, and financial planning.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, including vendor payments, client invoicing, and follow-up
- Work with production to track production costs, margins, and inventory value across collections.
- Manage payroll and basic HR administration for a small team.
- Build and maintain operational systems - for expenses, inventory, reporting, and communication - that can scale with the brand.
- Handle business filings, insurance, and compliance as needed.
- Support the founders with strategic financial decisions, budgeting, and planning ahead of each collection.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in business operations, finance, or a related role.
- Experience in the fashion industry strongly preferred - familiarity with production cycles, wholesale, an direct-to-consumer strongly preferred.
- Comfortable working directly with the founders in a fast-moving, small-team environment.
- Strong grasp of bookkeeping and financial reporting; experience with QuickBooks or similar a plus.
- Highly organized, proactive, and able to create structure where there isn't any.
- Discretion and professionalism; this role handles sensitive financial information
- Based in New York City
Compensation
Commensurate with experience and engagement structure. Open to hourly, part-time salary, or fractional retainer depending on the candidate.
