Yana Matkivski was born in Ukraine. The culture stays with her through its colors, flowers, music, and everyday details she returns to when she needs clarity. It keeps the work honest.
She was a competitive rhythmic gymnast and spent most of her youth training. Her mother made all of her leotards by hand, beading and patterning them on their kitchen floor. That process shaped how she thinks about craft and care.
Years of training, including daily ballet, built a strong sense of how discipline creates beauty. It also gave her a knowledge of the body - its lines, movement, and proportion. That foundation carries through the work.
The team shares this background, with experience in ballet and costume design. The collection was developed with ballet costume designer Lauren Starobin, whose background in art, design, and craft was instrumental in bringing the vision into reality.
This brand was built in New York City, slowly and in person. The atelier is in Greenwich Village and the collection was made possible with the helping hands of New York City’s Garment District.
This is a personal practice, built on experience, precision, and a clear point of view.
